I like the way it turned out but unforunatley it doesn’t quite fit right oh well more inspiration to lose a few KGs

I wasn’t really happy with the idea of slip stitching the whole waits band so I topstitched all thw way around the waist band and ties

and the opening for the inner tie to come out through

Not so sure i did such a good job on that bit but not too bad for a first go

12 months 12 challenges….. January – something for me

January 5, 2010 by beebeejaybee

I decided to sign up for this one Ive had this skirt well since mum gave me her basket of patterns…. she said it was the best skirt nan had ever made for her …. so tonight I unfolded all of the peices happily it is a one size in the envelope pattern so nothing has been lost by it being cut out
DSC00175

pulled out my fabric and panicked for a second or two because it isn’t very wide fabric but it was ok

laid the main peice out and cut away ….. I sew clothing for miss so often using my rotary cutter to cut them out that I struggle to cut out pattern peices for me with scissors but I got there

laid the contrast out and cut that too …. then realised the pattern is not suitable for stripes or plaids or obvious diagonals…. and my fabric is bluey purpley floral with light and pale blue strips ins the background but it looks like the strips now go diagonally so it can’t be that bad
DSC00170
anyway after a bit of cutting and marking the lounge room looked a little bit of a mess and I’m supposed to be doing other things so that is it for tonight …. maybe tomorrow I’ll have a go at some more I don’t imagine it taking all that long to sew

How to make an odd sock pouch

December 26, 2009 by beebeejaybee

with christmas this year came two digital cameras….. both with rechargable batteries and of course chargers to match and one came with an adapter because it takes a micro SD card

I needed something to keep the chargers tidy and safe while not in use I had thought about the usual wrap but  I know that wrapped in that way the cable still gets tangled on things especially if its put into the bottom of your bag or a drawer so the boy suggested keeping them in an old sock

I decided that that wasn’t quite good enough partly because most of my socks have some sort of embroidery or colour change in the knit which leaves lots of little threads to get prongs caught on

so here is my solution

you will need
DSC00028
1 peice of ribbon or cord (I had ribbon sitting on my table), your charger and cable and for that matter anything else you want to fit in the pouch, two odd socks (I know you have them) or just two socks that no longer stay up, hey if you want you can go with brand new socks, scissors and a sewing machine or needle and thread (make sure you have enough thread in your bobbin too

first choose one to be the lining and one to be the outer sock….. turn the lining sock inside out
DSC00029
then stick it inside the outer sock (wrong sides facing)
DSC00030
gently stuff the socks with your charger and push it right to the toe
DSC00032
find where the charger ends, I’ve marked it here with my scissors
DSC00033
cut maybe 1 inch above the flat point
DSC00034
turn socks so they are right sides facing, make sure they stay in the same direction, especially if the heel is part of the top
DSC00036
if your machine has one use the stretch stitch to stitch 1/4 in from the cut edge…. remember to leave asmall gap for turning
DSC00037
turn socks
DSC00039
I mucked up and forgot to leave the gap so sortof unpicked but  ended up clipping a small hole
DSC00042
once you have re stuffed the inner to the outer topstitch 1/8in all the way around making sure you close the gap
DSC00043
now because I mucked up the turning gap it didn’t close properly I lengthended the hole a little to allow for the ribbon if you remembered to leave the gap and close it here is where you make a small snip to allow the ribbon or cord to fit

create a casing by stitching another line of stretch or I guess Zig Zag  about 1/4 in from the top stitching
DSC00046
insert ribbon (don’t mind the lack of casing I got myself a little ahead before I realised)
DSC00045
tie both ends of the ribbon in a knot and enjoy your pouch and less messy cables…. I ‘m trying to imagine this made from little baby socks for keeping earphones and mobile handsfree kits in but that may be a little fiddly

A christmas dress

December 13, 2009 by beebeejaybee

here it is this years dress….. I made the  side seams a little bigger than standard because miss is so skinny but it all fit together really well

I plan to make this dress again sometime soonish with less special fabric so that I can play with some other techniques ….. I was thinking about overlocking the seams to finish the,but in the end couldn’t be bothered dragging the overlocker out so used the edge stitch on my machine I’d like to have a go I’d also like to have a go at blind hemming rather than whip stitching the facing …. it may not lok so good on the inside but from what I understand the facing idea is firstly so you don’t have to ease the skirt cure into a hem and then so as the little miss is running around you see the odd little flash of colour on the inside or something like that anyway so it won’t be looked at too closely

Oliver + S tea party sundress

have you ever tried to get an almost 2 year old to stand still for a photo ….. miss now always wants to stand up on the sewing table ……oops
